favicon.ico issue - IE7

» written on September 2, 2008 at 5:21 am, by Scorpiono

I’ve been working on the SEO engine for the manele site. Finished most of it, and now it’s time to.. relax.. or do the detail part, which in my head was a brand new favicon.

<link rel=”shortcut icon” type=”image/ico” href=”/favicon.ico” />

I can’t see it so I post on DigitalPoint to see what fellow webmasters think..

showing on my IE7 and FF3

It works fine in IE6 and FF3

What I’ve found is that with favicons in IE7, they usually don’t appear immediately. You have to give it time before you can expect it to appear. I know, it sucks, but it’s a moderately documented flaw.

My conclusion on this one: Caching problem! definetly, but I’ve removed the temporarily internet files. Odd yet!

Ideas?

    Full link to the favicon instead of /favicon.ico

    Microsoft probably broke something with a recent IE update. I’m having problems viewing favicons as well with IE 7. If you find the fix, please let me know so that I can apply it to my sites/browser as well.
